The Art of Just Doing It!
On the 27 September 2016, I decided to turn the life of my family upside down. I decided to take a leap of faith and accept a new job opportunity in Madrid Spain. It could be a great success or it we could fall flat on our faces, either way, I was prepared to find out. I had a month to pack up my life in the UK and move it to Madrid.
Over the final month, the atmosphere was mixed, it was unfortunate that my last days were marred with negativity, incorrect assumptions and false accusations. It was, however, also full of love, kindness, support and hard work.
It was a busy month selling furniture, decorating, cleaning, landscaping to be able to hand our rental house back and working to meet deadlines whilst meeting expectations. In addition, we needed to find our other family members a temporary home, Teddy our Dog has been settled with a lovely lady who home boards dogs and Tigger our Cat is with one of my Brothers, we are extremely grateful to both.
Somehow, we did it, we arranged everything to move across on the 27 October 2016. Our flights were delayed but luckily all we needed to do the other side was pick up the keys for the apartment and unpack our bags. We had five days before I started work and my Daughter had her interview at a potential British School in Madrid.
We had no Kettle, no Toaster, nor oven shelves but we adapted and managed to cook and make Tea, very important for a British Expat. We adapted to our surroundings, got ourselves familiar with our surroundings in the little time we had.
If we had not just got on with it, buckled down and had the Art of Just Doing, we would likely have failed at the first hurdle. We did it and we moved. Life is very different and we miss the two members of our family we have left behind until they can join us at a later date but for now we take each day as it comes and settle in.
