5 Simple Steps to Happiness

When you get up in the morning, how do you start your day? Have you hit the snooze button fifteen times and now feel even worse. Do you look in the mirror and just think ‘yuk’, does putting one foot in front of the other feel like a mammoth task? If so, there is good news. You can change this with a few 5 simple daily habits for happiness

Don’t press the snooze button. I know, how I dare suggest that you give up that extra five minutes in bed. The body needs some time to get you ready to wake up. When you let yourself go back to sleep, your body thinks, “False alarm, we’re not getting up,” and settles in. When that buzzer goes off a second time, Pelayo says that your body and brain are taken by surprise, resulting in that groggy, fuzzyheaded feeling called sleep inertia. This can take up to two hours to clear. The more you snooze the more confused your body gets.

Compliment Yourself.  You will be amazed what an effect this has and is a great way to improve yourself worth. A hypnotherapist once advised me to say Thank you for a minimum of four weeks, every time you get yourself a cup of your coffee, serve yourself dinner or even open a door. It sounds silly but it does work. In addition, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you look beautiful and that you are an amazing, strong and able to do anything.

Compliment Others.  By now, you will have seen the positive effects of complimenting yourself, why not spread the love and compliment others. You never know you may find your perfect partner by complimenting their shoes. As Ed Sheeransays ‘..People fall in love in mysterious ways..’.

Put the device down.  Yes, my lovelies put that smartphone or tablet down. Spend some quality time with family or friends, use the lost are of talking to communicate. Give those around you, your undivided attention. Your friendships and relationships will become stronger. If out for a meal, and people are just unable to put down the phones, make sure everyone puts their devices in the middle of the table. The first one to pick their phone up pays the bills.

Finally, take a walk. Get some exercise and enjoy the great outdoors, not just your daily commute to the office. Walking has the same benefits to Yoga Pilates or the treadmill. Any age or fitness level can do it. A brisk walking reduces the risk of heart disease more effectively than running. They observed participants aged between 18 and 80 over a six-year period and found that walking reduced the risk of heart disease by 9.3%, while running reduced it by 4.5%.  In addition, if you need help to stop the morning snooze, there's even more good news: 30 minutes of brisk walking over five days could help you sleep easy, according to research by Oregon State University. A study by the university showed that walking helped participants sleep better and feel more alert during the day.

Happiness starts with you. Your happiness can be spread to others and along with it, compassion and tolerance will flourish as you are less likely to be angry and tired.  So get good night’s sleep, enjoy quality time with friends and family and get fit at the same time with these 5 Simple daily habits for happiness.
